New Mural UNTITLED by Sandra Cinto Installed by Murals of La Jolla

Murals of La Jolla was founded by the La Jolla Community Foundation and is now a project of the Athenaeum. The goal of the mural project is to enhance the civic character of the community by commissioning public art projects on private property throughout La Jolla. The Murals of La Jolla Art Advisory Committee is composed of the heads of the major visual arts organizations who commission artists to propose the intervention of an image on specific walls on privately owned buildings. The first two artworks, by Kim MacConnel and Roy McMakin, were painted directly on their sites. Subsequent artworks have been printed on vinyl and installed on billboard-like structures, with the exception of Heather Gwen Martin’s mural, which is painted on its site. Each work is on view for a minimum of two years and has been generously funded by private donations. MuralsOfLaJolla.com

There Be Dragons at Quint Gallery from Jan. 12 to Feb. 23

Guns are central to David Adey’s latest series of work: guns as a tool to assist with the creation of his sculptures and online designs for them created with a 3D printer that become major elements in these new works.

“It is one of the most vexing problems our culture is facing. For me, this is a project that transcends art-making. It is one I have tried to work through in philosophical terms,” David says.

The MED Announces 2019 Wine Dinner Lineup

For years, the iconic Pink Lady has stood out for elevated experiences, but most recently, it’s the inventive and tasteful culinary offerings that have made it stand out even more. This past year was one for the books, with sold-out monthly wine dinners that brought together top vintners and inspiring cuisine. With a new year approaching, La V’s signature restaurant, THE MED, looks to outdo itself with an exceptional lineup of wineries for its monthly wine series.

Each dinner begins with a welcome reception on THE MED’s beautiful patio, followed by an outstanding five-course dinner complete with wine pairings. The menus are specially curated to complement each wine and comprise dishes that please the eye as well as the palate. Showcasing THE MED’s culinary team, led by Chef Alex Emery, the menus infuse classic cooking styles with modern techniques that bring out the best of the season in a one-of-a-kind meal.

To kick off the 2019 series, THE MED will host its first Wine Brunch with Iron Horse Vineyards on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. The menu will feature playful brunch dishes set to striking ocean views from THE MED’s outdoor terrace. Each multi-course series is $165 per person (all-inclusive) and starts at 6 p.m. with the exception of February’s brunch series. Seating is limited, and early reservations are encouraged. San Diego Center for Children Acquires 3 Acres in Linda Vista

The San Diego Center for Children recently acquired from the state 3 acres adjacent to its main campus in Linda Vista to total 12 acres of land. Due to the efforts of assembly member Dr. Shirley Weber, District 79, Assembly Bill 1057 directed the state to sell this property directly to the Center and was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown. By completing the purchase of this property this past September, the Center is charting its future to serve more children and families struggling with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.

Founded in 1887, the San Diego Center for Children is the oldest children’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the region providing evidence-based therapeutic, educational, foster care and transition age services to children and families struggling with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. CenterForChildren.org
