Wokou Ramen & Yakitori Coming to Pacific Beach
After enjoying much success in Carmel Valley, Wokou is opening up a second location in Pacific Beach! Scheduled to launch in early November, a new Wokou will bring the beach to new levels of culinary nirvana with handcrafted, affordably priced Asian specialties and urban atmosphere.
“We are far more than your traditional ramen spot,” Managing Partner Joey Pena says. “Our guests will enjoy unique twists on classic dishes that are rooted in culture and brimming with flavor.”
Wokou will occupy the current space that houses Promiscuous Fork off Ingraham and La Playa. The 2,800-square-foot space will be redesigned to feature both indoor and outdoor seating and a yakitori grill facing the street. The bar will offer beer, wine and a wide selection of sakes and sake bombs. And, just as she did in Carmel Valley, artist España Garcia will exhibit her signature wall illustrations coupled with Mike Dunn’s metalwork at the new location. WokouRamen.com

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts 27th Annual Butterfly Ball
San Diego nonprofit Fresh Start Surgical Gifts hosted its 27th Annual Butterfly Ball “Casino Royale” on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. Former MLB player David Justice and his wife, Rebecca, served as the event’s honorary chairs along with film producer and wife of the late Dr. Seuss, Audrey Geisel. Audret and the Justices have been involved with Fresh Start for more than 20 years. The Butterfly Ball commemorated Fresh Start’s commitment over the past 27 years in providing free-of-cost reconstructive surgery for kids with physical deformities. Fresh Start seeks to raise more than $175,000 at the event of which 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the Fresh Start Medical Program. FreshStart.org
