Las Patronas Awards Grant To Help Furnish New Classrooms

La Jolla Philanthropic Organization Las Patronas has awarded a $16,657 grant to the San Diego Center for Children’s Academy-expansion project. The money will go toward interior furnishings and teaching aids and equipment, including projectors, whiteboards and desks, for the two new classrooms at the Academy campus in Kearny Mesa. The fully-accredited special-education K-12 school, primarily for low- to moderate-income families, provides comprehensive grade-level-appropriate curricula in conjunction with therapeutic treatment and support. The school is aimed at students with behavioral and academic challenges beyond what public schools can provide even in special education classes.

And with Chef Ingrid Funes helming the kitchen, her dishes are as easy on the eyes (and palate) as the views. To start, try Funes’ Baby Beet Salad with oranges, shaved baby beets, roasted beets, honey vinaigrette, salted candied almonds and goat cheese brulee, or Cauliflower with Lemon Jam, crispy garbanzo beans and olive tapenade. For entrees, Funes added a Lamb Shoulder Papardelle Pasta with braised lamb shoulder, white mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes, as well as Roasted New York Steak with pee wee potatoes, turnips, Brussels sprouts, potato chips, salsa verde and demi sauce.
