Through the Duke’s Legacy of Aloha program, Duke’s La Jolla partnered with the La Jolla Shores Surfing Association to sponsor their annual Menehune Contest at La Jolla Shores. Duke’s La Jolla employee Ryan Cuff volunteered to shape and donate a surfboard he made to the contest winner. Sophia McGovern, girls 11-14 shortboard division winner, took home Ryan’s board. Supporting Women in STEM, 
Leadership, and Education

Athena, a local non-profit that connects and supports women in STEM, leadership, and education, held its 19th Annual Pinnacle Awards on May 4 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. The awards event celebrated “The Art of Possible” and honored leading individuals and businesses that support the success of women in STEM. Attendees congratulated the individuals and businesses that received Pinnacle Awards for their contributions toward advancing diversity in the fields of life science, education, services, and technology. The keynote speaker, Haben Girma, a disability advocate and White House Champion of Change, gave a passionate and inspiring message on overcoming barriers and the importance of advocacy and support.
